There goes an old saying, ‘Where there is a will, there is a way’. Likewise, ‘Where there is food, there is echoVME’. After reviewing various food joints in Chennai like Flower drum, Cream & Fudge, Deccan plaza, Links, Donut house and much more, this time we decided to drop in a visit at the newly opened Dunkin’ Donuts at the Phoenix Market city in Velachery, Chennai!
The place has an amazing ambience which will sit well with the youth. Team echoVME loved it and we had a tough time deciding which was each one’s favorite spot! Dev Amrutesh, the COO and President of Dunkin’ Donuts presided over the event, along with his team of chefs one of whom had flown down from Delhi especially for the event! The event started with Mr. Dev introducing his team and giving a brief description about the history of Dunkin’ Donuts!
In his talk, Mr. Dev said that with Dunkin’ Donuts, they plan to pull in the young adult crowd within the age group 21-35 who are tired of QSR and have no patience for fine dining. Looks like they’ve done their research! They discovered that the behaviour of urban young adults is very similar to each other in cities than the cousins staying in a town few kilometres away.
It was a 15 course meal which had them showcasing their best items off their huge menu. Here is a small description of each of them. Let the tasting begin!
1. Naughty Lucy Burger:
This might be one of the best burgers you will ever have. This was designed in such a way that the flavours tease you and add symphony in your mouth. The burger was a perfect combination of Indian and international flavours packed with oozing goodness of cheese and the smoky patty. This burger is available both in vegetarian and chicken options.
2. Wicked Wrap:
Going by its name we can say that the wicked wrap is just wicked! The flavours erupt in your mouth. It contains the right amount of spicy chicken/paneer sumptuously coated with amazing sauces and enough veggies that made us salivate at first sight and devour it the minute we could lay a hand on one!
3. Iced Tea:
Once the wicked wrap was done, it was the time for refreshments and boy did they bring it! These Iced teas are not the regular ones you find on your regular cafes! DD has one for each and every person! Your life will be a waste if you don’t try their spiked iced tea which is a mix of cloves, cinnamon & pepper cloves. Then came the equally refreshing lemongrass green iced tea & mint and lemon iced green tea. The speciality here is – They brew their own tea!
4. Tough Guy Burger:
Now this is THE heavy weight burger using which the “Get your mojo back” tagline was launched! It’s tough! It’s masculine! It’s flawed and its confrontational! These are not our words. These are the COO’s words! The tough guy burger comes in moderations which are original tough guy burger and brute tough guy burger! One should have an extremely strong jaw and digestive system to finish the original tough guy burger at Dunkin’ Donuts! “Take it out on the burger” says Mr. Dev! And we did just that!
5. Crunchy Joe Burger:
It’s a burger which is very unique. It is the world’s first burger with a fried like bun. Its crunchy and juicy at the same time with a filling of lentils and mixed sloppy joe. Crunchy joe gets its inspiration from the parathe waali gali in Old Delhi!
6. Dunkaccino:
Dunkacinno is the best cold coffee in the world. Let it be the presentation or the taste, it’s the best! There are about 4 variations in it and we got the opportunity to have the Jamaican rum and almond flavoured dunkaccino. No no! It does not have alcohol but it just has mild rum flavour added to it! Yumm!
7. Espresso:
This is the best option for the black coffee lovers. Those who like the bitter taste for coffee will definitely fall in love with this wonderful recipe at Dunkin’ donuts. Feeling down and tired? An espresso from Dunkin’ Donut can rejuvenate your body and soul!
8. Cappuccino:
A combination of freshly brewed coffee and milk – the Cappuccino couldn’t get any better! Trust us! The cappuccino at Dunkin’ Donuts is a deadly combination of the best coffee beans in the country- Chikmangalore and with the best hands making it. It’s frothy goodness served with a smile by the staff is guaranteed to lift your mood and make your day!
9. Donuts:
And finally we come to the most important part, The Donuts 😀 😀 The names of the donuts are quite interesting! The flour comes from Australia and Spain for the donuts.
Death by Chocolate: A perfect blend of chocolate and much more! Every bite of it feels “Wow.” The chocolate just blends as you bite the donut.
Alive by Chocolate: This is overloaded with tempting gooey chocolate and crushed chocolate cookie crumbs.
It’s a mistake: A chocolate made out of white chocolate with chilly guava filling. This donut seems to be quite different. Though the combination seems different the donut tastes brilliant! Rest assured the only mistake in this donut is in the name 😛
Ugly Strawberry: All the strawberry lovers would love this donut! Strawberry with chocolate can never go wrong! The strawberry teases your tongue while the chocolate dissolves in your mouth. Warm fuzzy feelings everywhere! 😀
Break up party éclair: Chocolate lovers would totally be lost in this! Every bit of this would make you say “yummie!” The sumptuous eclair will definitely help you forget any unfortunate events of the day! Go for it if you are having a bad day and see how you come out with a smile on your face! 🙂
No more blues: You can certainly have no “blues” if you have this. Mint lovers would love this refreshing donut. Mint and donut you say? Trust us, it’s fun! Go for it if you’re feeling adventurous!
Stuck on You: For caramel lovers this is the perfect donut! With crunchy cookies to top it up! It packs a punch and leaves an amazing after taste.
We would love to thank all the bloggers and tweeters for making it an amazing event! And not to forget, We would also like to thank the wonderful chefs! :p
All in all it was an amazing day where the brand expressed their passion with their food! What we liked the most is the fact that Dunkin’ Donuts deliver the best without taking themselves too seriously. They deliver with a smile. The chefs took time to explain everything to us, Mr. Dev made sure everyone had a taste of their food! The day was filled with fun, energy, buzz and of course donuts! 😀 So being a foodie in Chennai is quite interesting and days like today provide fuel for our enthusiasm. The inauguration event of Dunkin’ Donuts was enthralling and the donuts on display were mesmerizing to say the least. The display of burgers, coffee and éclairs added the element of fascination to the entire event making it something that would be remembered for a long time!
