Social Media has become the first thing for many of us to get onto before we get on with life. As social media marketers it becomes even more imperative for us to draft content that catches our viewers’ attention, keeps it and compels them to share it as well! Having said that, we also know the struggle behind coming up with that one perfect post! Here are 5 things you must look into while drafting your post.
1. Make sure you have an objective set for your post
For if you, yourself are not clear on what you mean to do for the audience with your posts, then forget the audience getting what you mean! The common categorization of any post can be done in two ways – Is it educational? or Is it meant to engage? What are you trying to achieve with this post? Once you have the answer to these questions, go ahead and ideate keeping them in mind.
2. Make sure your tone is right
We all agree that each brand has a tone of communication that they follow when they are interacting with their audience. You CANNOT use a casual tone with a B2B brand – it must be polite or formal based on the kind of post it is.
The right tone helps in keeping your follower’s attention on your page. Avoid extreme click baiting as that will lead to you getting bashed by the intelligent people of the internet! 😛 It is usually best to keep the tone friendly, polite and conversational. The usage of right kind of words and pronouns play a big role in making your content popular among your audience. Think of it this way – if the post comes on your timeline, what words do you need to put together to make you read the post?
3. The content length
With so many posts & tweet being posted every moment around the clock, the users have a lot of options and are bombarded with interesting content to watch every single second! (Ever come across posts that say – 10,000 likes within 30 minutes and seen that it has exceeded the requested number of likes?) So if you write a lengthy description, chances of people seeing it is pretty low. So what must be the optimum length of descriptions? Check out the table below:
4. Image & content placement in your posts
As they say, “A picture speaks more than words” and in today’s social media scenario, we cannot emphasis enough on the value a creative with clean lines and neat placement of the content! Few tips that help in creating a good creative are:
- Keep the image on the left and text on the right side of the post.
- Avoid using sharp fonts as they psychologically make people think of sharp objects and pain.
- Keeping faces in your posts makes your posts instantly like able as it provides a human touch – however make sure it is in line with what you are trying to communicate.
- Neutral facial expressions win over expressive faces as it is up to the viewer’s interpretation.
5. Call to action
You have your post, you have your amazing creative. What do you want your audience to do with it? Ask them to RT, favorite, like, share and comment on it! Sentences like – “Share it with your loved ones,” “Tag someone” “Comment your opinions” have very good value as you are encouraging them to interact with you!
