At echoVME, inspiration comes to us in many forms and instances. We constantly take part in activities where we imbibe learning and gyaan sessions. So how do we prep ourselves on Fridays? We have ‘Inspirational Fridays’ where we begin our day at 8 am and share new ideas and get inspired by each other. Today, we were inspired by Mr. Abhishek Shah from ‘be positive 24’ who has an experience of about 17 years in the marketing industry.
An Interesting Task
Abhishek surprised us by giving us an interesting approach to our first task –we had to speak about the person sitting next to us and highlight their good points and how they contribute to the organization. The objective was to see how well we know each other and concluded that we as marketers must know our brands very well.
We were then given 5 different interesting exercises. The first exercise was to write 5 goods things about ourselves within 15 seconds. To our surprise, it was difficult to even describe ourselves. The next exercise required us to write about 3 things that we don’t like about ourselves. We had a 15 seconds time frame again. Well, most of us were fast enough to write about our weaknesses. We then had to write down the words by which we want to be described 5 years down the line. Later, we were also asked to write down 5 professional goals for 2016 and 5 personal goals for 2016. This was interesting as we had a chance to confront our hopes and desires.
Experts in Servicing
When you visit your doctor, would you question his expertise? His prescription for you? But we do the same with waiters at a restaurant, don’t we? Likewise, as a marketer, it is important to be an expert to your clients. Your client must believe in you and your prescriptions. Make the client believe that we know what’s better for their brands.
Traditional Vs Digital
Remember seeing the ‘Free Basics’ advertisements plastered on all of traditional media? Putting the debate of the entire “traditional vs digital marketing” to rest for once and for all, Abhishek explained the campaign by Facebook as an example. A digital platform like Facebook resorted to using traditional media advertising to promote their product, ‘Free Basics’. As marketers we should know and learn about both forms of advertising, in-depth and should know how traditional media and digital media are not rivals, but they must co-exist. And to be an excellent marketer, we must have knowledge about both the mediums.
Are You Standing Out From the Clutter?
What separates us from the others? Are we innovative? You may say dressing up like Superman is innovative but the answer is on quite the contrary. Dressing up like superman is not innovative, but adding the extra edge to the brand is what will separate you from the others.
Be Delightful, Not Just ‘Great’!
While being good is a nice start, you must strive to be great. Be ‘delightful’. For example, you plan a surprise for your colleague and get her/him ice cream. But you later find out that person has diabetes and cannot have the ice-cream. You were being thoughtful. But knowing in advance about his diabetes and getting a sugar-free ice cream for him is ‘delightful!’
With this fresh insight into our minds in the early hours of a Friday morning, we were determined to implement the gyaan shared by Mr. Abhishek Shah.
Thank you Mr.Abhishek for inspiring us and showing us the bigger picture of marketing.
